imagomundi

www.nowwhat.com.cy/imagomundi is an art piece by nowwhat collective created as part of the imagomundi project by Fondazione Benetton, as part of the Cypriot Collection. A 10×12 cm canvas was sent to each participating artist to work on and return to the Fondazione for an exhibition in Trieste, Italy in May 2018.

As cited on their website : ’Imago Mundi is the collection of works commissioned and collected by Luciano Benetton on his travels around the world, involving, on a voluntary and non-profit basis, established and emerging artists from many different countries. Each of them has created a work whose only restriction is its 10×12 cm format, contributing to the creation of a remarkable artistic geography’ (http://www.imagomundiart.com/about)

As artists we were very intrigued by the artistic geography of this project. By installing a GPS tracker on the back of the canvas and redirecting the viewers to our website, we expanded the 10 x 12 cm physical format of this art piece. Meanwhile we highlighted the intricate relationship between locality and mobility this project embodies.

The canvas departed from Cyprus Cultural Services building in Nicosia, Cyprus and headed towards ‘Salone degli Incanti’ art gallery in Trieste. In the future, this could also record any other destinations. All these recordings can be found in our website, which serves as an ongoing archive/map of this piece. https://player.vimeo.com/video/272104985?api=1&player_id=player1
